“AUTUMN RESIDECY PROGRAM”

D.I.S.C. The Art organized a residency program from 1st October to 14th November 2015 at Keonjhar, Odisha. We had invited three international artists: Albeiro Rojas Tomedes(London ), George Myers (London ) and Charlotte Boman(Sweden). They actively participated in the autumn art residency program and collaborated with potters from Fakirpur, Soft stone carvers from Dhakotha, and Bamboo weavers from Chenapadi. The resident artist learnt ancient skills and exchanged ideas while collaborating with the Artisans. The art residency program is designed to connect artists from all over the world and collaborate with local artists of Odisha, India. This platform created a space for participants to exchange ideas, experience, and make a collaborative journey in art. The residents' artists worked with artisans' communities, experienced cultures, traditional skills, and explored themselves as much as possible from this journey. During the residency program, Four Odia contemporary artists named Bhabani Sankar Das, Jagatjeet Dash, Ranjan Maharana, and Satya Ranjan Rout were invited to work with three overseas artists in a painting camp at Ananndapur, Keonjhar. The participants have experienced the Indian lifestyle, the beauty of nature and colors had been implemented into the visual art forms. They learned from local people like the bamboo weaving techniques, tie and dye process, the traditional skill of stone carving, interacting with local artists as well as people, and more.

‘TRANSLATIONS’ is a visual art exhibition of the autumn art residency program held from date 5th November to 10th November at Rashtriya Lalitkala academy in Bhubaneswar. The residency outcomes are installations, stone carvings, drawings, and paintings that were influenced by the local culture, traditional skills, nature, environments, vibrant color, and heritage of Odisha. They recreated the artwork in their own ideas and thoughts by inspired from their surroundings. All participants, during 45 days of autumn residency program which collaborated with local artists formed a bond between art and culture.
