About Residency
D.I.S.C. The Art plan for the "Journey of wild silk Village Fakirpur" phase provides a future plan for 30 days residency at weaver’s village Fakirpur. This residency has three phases from January to February month. Each Phase designed with a unique plan to grasp ancient weaving practices and materials used by the weavers. In this residency residents will have 7 days to understand village life, understand the daily life of weavers, verities of yarn, how wild silk yarn processed, types of loom and Local art and craft practices. Then next 18 days’ will be dedicated to workshop with weavers at basecamp and the last 5days of the residency will be exhibition and cultural activities. The day wise breakdown of activities, workshops, interactions, and creative exploration is glimpse of your final outcome of this 30days residency plan. The first 7 days will help you to create a passion and understanding about the wild Tussar silk, handloom, weavers skills and possibilities of your creative journey. It ensures that participants gain a deep understanding of cocoon and wild tussar silk weaving, gather inspiration from local environments, and develop their artistic concepts. The program aims to allow participants with the knowledge and skills needed to create meaningful art pieces during the residency period. Once artist will finish their 7 days journey the artist will jump into creative workshop with weavers to create their art works. Artists are free to work this 18days with weavers from morning 10:00am to 05:00 PM. In the evening artist will have free time to relax at basecamp. Every morning 06:00am to 07:00am will be a Yoga / Meditation session for all interested participant. D.I.S.C. The Art is aim to create peaceful environment that can help all of us to create a healthy mind to begin your day with lots of energy. Fakirpur village has many places to relax and meet warm hearted people in your surroundings. This warm regards will make you fall in love with village life.

Program Phases:
Journey of Exploration (7 days):
Objective: Engaging participants in the local culture and environment to gather inspiration for their creative journey.
Participating artists learn about indigenous traditions, ancient crafts, and contemporary adaptations.
Engage in workshops with local artisans to learn traditional techniques and processes of wild Tussar silk.

Creative Workshops (18 days):
Objective: Enable participants to refine their ideas, collaborate with peers, and develop their art pieces.
Activities: Curated workshops encouraging cross cultural collaboration and skill sharing.
•Mentoring sessions with master artisans to guide participants in mastering traditional techniques.
•Experimental sessions with the ancient art forms with contemporary expressions to create your art.
• Open studios and Collaboration with artists to share progress, seek feedback, and refine concepts.


Exhibition and Cultural Activities (5 days):
Objective: Provide a platform for artists to showcase their creations, fostering cultural exchange and dialogue.
• Activities: Artists finalize their pieces based on the insights gained during the journey and workshops.
• Curated exhibition open to the local community and visitors, showcasing diverse artistic interpretations.
• Cultural exchange events, including traditional performances, discussions, and interactive sessions. Collaboration between international, national, and indigenous artists.
• Opportunities for artists to engage with visitors, sharing their creative processes and cultural perspectives.
• Local Cultural: Throughout the program, participants will have the chance to experience local festivals, music, dance, and cuisine, enriching their understanding of the region's cultural history.

Program Benefits: Day 1
• Introduction and Orientation: Welcome, overview of the program, and objectives of the journey. Participants get to know each other and also D.I.S.C. The Art team.
• Local Exploration: Guided tour of the Fakirpur village and its surroundings. Introduction to local culture, traditions, terracotta crafts, Paper Mache and about cocoon and wild Tussar silk weaving.
• Meeting Weavers: Interaction with weavers know more about cocoon and wild Tussar silk, Understand about their craft, techniques, challenges, stories and significance.
Workshop Briefing: Introduction to the upcoming workshops and activities.
Day 2
• Traditional Techniques: Workshops on traditional cocoon and wild tussar silk weaving techniques by master weaver. Participants gain hands on experience and insights.
• Cultural Engagement: Participation in local activities, traditional music, and dance, to understand about culture and appreciation.
Day 3
• Contemporary Adaptation: Workshop on exploring ways to merge traditional techniques with contemporary artistic expressions. Group discussions on concepts and ideas.
• Exploring Materials: Visit local markets to gather materials for the upcoming workshops and art projects.
Day 4
• Share and Create together: Creative sessions for participants to brainstorm and sketch their ideas inspired by cocoon and wild tussar silk weaving.
• Process of Innovation: Group discussions on combining diverse perspectives to create a collaborative art piece.
Day 5
• Creative Exploration: Visit nearby rural areas, observing nature and local life, drawing inspiration for artistic narratives.
• Workshop Preparation: Master artisans conduct sessions on natural dyeing techniques; can inspire participants' understanding of material possibilities.
Day 6
• Skill Refinement: Master artisans and participants jointly create samples and patterns, to understand the weaving and dyeing skills.
• Discover your passion: To Know more about traditional cooking and learning about daily life of weavers will create a deeper connections among participants and local communities.
Day 7
• Finalizing Concepts: Participants finalize their concepts and designs based on their journey experiences and newly acquired skills.
• Presentation Preparation: Practice sessions on articulating ideas for the upcoming exhibition at village and sharing sessions.
• Reflection and Feedback: Group reflection on the journey, learning, and personal growth. Feedback session for program enhancement.
